Casamassima: the blue village

Have you ever dreamed of walking on a cloud? Have you ever dreamed about traveling to Morocco to visit Chefchaouen, the blue city?

In the South of Italy, in Apulia, 20kms away from Bari, you can now find a blue village! During your next trip to Italy or your next vacation to Apulia, make sure to visit this little blue village!

In Apulia, villages are usually whites but this village is blue because of a miracle that happened to the town of Casamassima.

In the 17th century, the pest epidemic spread in Apulia. One measure to avoid contagion was to use quicklime, an inexpensive disinfectant product, which protected from infection.

Casamassima was spared by the pest epidemic and for this reason, the Lord of Casamassima decided to paint the Old Town in blue color, just as the mantle of Our Lady of Constantinople, the Virgin that protects Casamassima.

Casamassima is not that big; you won’t need a lot of time to visit this blue village. It will take you only half an hour to visit Casamassima Old Town and to get lost in this fairy village.

It’s not that hard to reach Casamassima: it’s only half an hour from Bari, and it is connected well with it.

From Bari, you can take a bus or a train to reach Casamassima.
